In memory of Al Moore – Our companion and success coach

It is with deep sadness that we say farewell to our former national coach and valued companion Allan «Al» Moore, who passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 74, following a battle with cancer.

Nachruf in Deutsch

Al shaped the sport of curling for many years as a competitive player in British Columbia and, after his career, quickly became a respected teacher, technical expert, and coach. With his sense of humour, his vast experience and his sharp eye for detail, he repeatedly succeeded in lifting teams to a new level of performance, including the Swiss teams. From 2011 to 2016, Al served as a national coach for SWISSCURLING and as a team coach. He stood at the beginning of our elite sport development and played a crucial role in the golden years of Swiss women's curling. Under Al's guidance, Switzerland celebrated three women's world championship titles and one European championship, as well as two mixed doubles world titles.

Al was known for his tireless dedication. Driving his unmistakable car, he travelled from rink to rink and coached late into the evenings. No journey was too long. He always gave everything and, through his warm and caring manner, touched the hearts of countless players. Many friendships grew from this, extending far beyond the shared time on the ice.

For SWISSCURLING, Al Moore remains a symbol of commitment, kindness and true excellence. With his humour and his deep understanding of people, he had a unique ability to unite teams and strengthen them in a lasting way. The entire Swiss curling family joins SWISSCURLING in extending our deepest condolences to Linda Moore, her family and all who were touched by Al's kindness, wisdom and passion. We wish them strength and comfort in this difficult time.

Thank you, Al, for everything. Rest in peace.

Tribute Messages from our players

Al, we laughed a lot together, had heated discussions, agreed sometimes and disagreed other times — always with the goal of becoming even better. I will remember you not only as an outstanding coach, but also as a humorous and warm-hearted person. Without you—and without the support of your wife Linda—I would not be where I am today in curling. Thank you for everything. Until we see us again! - Alina Pätz

Al was the best technical coach I ever had. His tireless dedication, his humor, and his genuine understanding made him an exceptional coach and person. He contributed significantly to SWISSCURLING's many successes and was exactly the support we needed.

Linda complemented his work perfectly and was a great support to our team. I wish her much strength during this difficult time.

We will miss Al - as a coach, as a mentor, and above all as a person. - Irene Schori

Al Moore, the golden success coach, traveled through the entire country to coach —including me in Langenthal. Al and I spent more than 165 hours together on the coaching bench, and he coached me and my teams in countless games. He was someone who always believed in me, even though he won almost every draw to the button against me in evening practice. Without him, I would never have gotten to where I am today. Even though we weren't related by blood, Al was part of the family—he was our “Crazy Uncle Al”! Just last June, we played shuffleboard at his house, went out into nature together, and enjoyed a glass or two of Amarone—his favorite wine. Al is now free from the pain he has been in over the last few weeks. All the memories – whether we laughed, cried, or celebrated – remain. Thank you, Al, for everything you gave us.I miss you more than words can describe.  ❤️ - Carole Howald

The Swiss curling family owes a tremendous part of its international success to Al. He worked tirelessly and spent countless hours in Swiss curling rinks with dozens of players. His professionalism, his knowledge, his passion for the sport and his kindness and humour made him the “champions coach”, and for me, a friend. I thank Al from the bottom of my heart for everything and wish his wife Linda all the best and lots of strength. - Binia Feltscher
